Where does Santa live?

The secrets out

Santa chose to live in Lapland and once you see it, you’ll know why.

Where does Santa live?

Lots of people think Santa lives at the North Pole, but the truth is he chose Lapland.

The North Pole might be all snow and ice, but Lapland has everything he needs: reindeer, huskies, snowy forests and magical skies.

Once you have seen it for yourself, you will understand why this is the place he calls home.

Read on to discover the magic behind it all.

What is Lapland like?

Lapland is a place where:

  • Snow covers the ground like a giant soft blanket.
  • Forests stretch for miles and the trees are so tall they seem to tickle the clouds.
  • Reindeer wander freely, ready to pull Santa’s sleigh. They spend the year practising take-offs and landings in the snowy forests and secretly race each other when Santa isn’t watching. (Rudolph usually wins, but don’t tell Dasher.)
  • Huskies race across the snow, eager to take families on a sleigh, sledding through the arctic wilderness.
  • And then, every so often, the sky puts on its own show. Swirls of green, pink, and purple dance above your head, called the Northern Lights. It’s like nature has its very own box of Christmas decorations.

If you were Santa, wouldn't you choose to live here too?

Santa's helpers in Lapland

Living in Lapland means Santa is never short of company.

Reindeer wander through the forests and help with sleigh rides. Huskies thrive in the snow and race happily across the trails.

The reindeer train hard for their Christmas Eve flight. They pull sleighs through the forests, practise landings in the snow.

And then there are the elves. They’re meant to be hard at work in the workshops, wrapping presents and testing toys, but every so often you’ll hear them giggle. That usually means another snowball fight has broken out.
